Celebrity Bouquets

Ahhhh...the bridal bouquet. A tradition born centuries ago, these flowers have been known to symbolize different things...the bride's feelings toward the marriage, fertility, and a new life. I've found that having 2 bouquets is a must for brides today. A larger, more elaborate one, to be carried down the aisle and used in wedding photos, and a second, smaller one for the bouquet toss, created just to be thrown towards the end of the reception. A sea of single ladies proceed to scramble and claw at one another in an attempt to be the lucky girl who "catches" the bouquet and becomes the next woman destined to be married. I've always been a girl's girl. One that tends to gravitate towards shiny things. I've been one to obsess about the cut, color, carat, and clarity of a diamond or other precious stone, and can't wait for a rock to be placed on my finger. The engagement ring...the one piece of jewelry every girl dreams of. It's a symbol of commitment, of promise, and of everlasting love. All that glittery nonsense seems secondary to the flood of emotion when your dream guy drops to one knee and opens that little box filled with dreams of a future with you. A Grey Wedding!

So tonight's the big finale of this season's Grey's Anatomy!!! Last week, Meredith gave her wedding to Izzie and Alex, which totally made me cry because that's the kindest thing she and Derek could have done! You can call me a dork, but I'm in love with NBC's Chuck! I'm really hoping it gets picked up next season. I actually look forward to watching this nerd herd dude with an intersect in his brain fight bad guys with the CIA every Monday! Ah spring...the peak of wedding season. I think spring is such a popular time to get married because it kind of represents the romance of a new beginning. The world just seems to wake up from the cold, drab winter to lush greenery, blooming flowers, and chirping birds. To all of you lucky brides getting married this spring, take a peek at some of the latest trends this season brings!

April Showers bring May Flowers!

You can't have a spring wedding without having some floral inspiration! Lucky for you, flowers are a huge trend in 2009. Take a look at these gorgeous blooms!

This beautiful creation is actually a cake! I love the uniqueness of it! So many brides just adorn their cakes with flowers, but this is really special!

Taking Flight

Birds and Butterflies are a new trend this season, and are so easy to incorporate in any wedding! From cakes to favors, you can put these little guys anywhere! If you really want to wow your guests, release some butterflies or doves at the end of your ceremony!

Garden Green

This color brings a freshness to a spring celebration. Stick with light, brighter tones. Darker greens look much better in the fall!

Wedding Program Etiquette

Souvenirs and a gracious gesture, wedding programs help guests to understand your ceremony and to introduce your family members and wedding party. If designed carefully, it can also give them a sneak peek into your wedding theme or motif! Assign someone at the ceremony entrance to distribute them to your guests. You could also leave them on display near the entrance if you wish that your guests pick them up themselves.

What to include in the program:
-Your names
-The bride and groom’s parents (If you’re worried about how to include step-parents, I’ve found that the most comfortable way to introduce them is to word it like this:
__________, father of the bride, accompanied by his wife_________.
You get the idea!
-Your attendants’ names and their roles in the wedding. The maid or matron of honor and best man named first, followed by the bridesmaids and groomsmen, and ending with the flower girl and/or ring bearer.
-The ceremony itinerary
-A list of your ceremony’s traditions Make sure to include any religious, or unity symbols that may be unfamiliar, and explain why you’ve chosen to include them and what it symbolizes for the both of you.
-Musical selections (and musicians)
-Titles of readings (and names of readers)

Some couples choose to thank their parents and grandparents in the program. This is also the perfect place to honor the memory of a lost relative or friend, include a poem, or fond memory of them. Any tributes or other thank you’s to closes friends, relatives, and even each other can be fit in as well! Make sure to keep everything short and sweet. Guests will be reading this only from the time they sit down to when the ceremony begins, referring back to it during the ceremony only when necessary.

Interfaith Couples Have No Fear!

I have always dreamed of getting married in a beautiful cathedral, bells ringing, and having my pastor preside over the ceremony. But fate has it, that I’ve fallen in love with a Jew! That would complicate things when it comes to our ceremony. To those of you stressing out about your interfaith wedding, don’t lose any sleep over this! Thousands of couples that are Jewish/ Christian, Catholic/ Buddhist, etcetera, get engaged every year. It’s really more common than you’d think. You should be ecstatic that you’ve got two great traditions to draw inspiration from!
First things first, you and your fiancée should sit down and discuss what religious elements of a wedding ceremony are most important to you. Then begin your search for an officiant, or officiants, if you wish. (You are not limited to just one.) The most popular route is to chose an officiant from each faith to preside over the ceremony. Although it’s more complicated, it guarantees that both of your beliefs will be included. Think of this joining of beliefs, as a symbol of your joining lives with each other! Your wedding will be the beginning of new, blended traditions for the two of you. Discuss with your officiant(s), what religious traditions to use that won’t conflict with each other. They’ll be able to help choose what customs are appropriate. Readings should be taken from both sacred texts, and intermingled with each other. Give your families as many opportunities to participate in these readings as possible. You want to make them feel included in the joining of your two different backgrounds.
In the end, each interfaith ceremony will be unique in itself, because the details really depend on the both of you, your officiant(s), and your faiths. Be proud of your one of a kind union!

I've been following Grey's Anatomy since the very first season, and I'll have to say that when I heard a Meredith and Derek wedding may happen on the 100th episode, I was thrilled! My thursday night guilty pleasure never ceases to surprise me though. Who knows what twists and turns writer Shonda Rhimes will throw at us!
